Rebel Columns
Danny Morrison
Rebel Columns is a selection of Danny Morrison's political commentaries
published in various newspapers from the signing of the Belfast Agreement in 1998
to the recent 2004 elections.
This collection covers both international and Irish politics. Morrison's themes include
the plight of the Palestinian nation, the war in Iraq, US and British foreign policy and
military aggression. One section is devoted to individuals the poets, writers
and freedom fighters who have stood up against injustice, and paid a heavy price.
In relation to Ireland he analyses republican strategy and developments within
unionism, British policy and the dirty war against republicans. There are also
sections on the media and the world after September 11.
In this provocative collection, the former publicity director of Sinn Féin and
ex-prisoner is at his sharpest, combining political anger with highly informative
comment. The national and international subject matter is unquestionably
serious, but Morrison's wit and eye for the absurd give his writing a special edge.
